What is fomite means?

Fomite refers to any inanimate object that can harbor and transmit infectious agents such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Examples of fomites include doorknobs, computer keyboards, cell phones, tabletops, shared utensils, and clothing. The transmission of infectious agents occurs when a person touches a contaminated fomite and then touches their face or another person, thereby spreading the infectious agent. Fomite transmission can contribute to the spread of communicable diseases such as the common cold, flu, COVID-19, and other respiratory infections. Regular cleaning and disinfecting of surfaces and objects can help prevent the transmission of infectious agents through fomites.
